Ant to Sol: Why this podcast

September 1, 2017

I’ve noticed lately that for an increasing number of us, some gloominess is starting to creep in to our daily lives. At first, I put it down to, at least in my own case age-maybe I’m just getting older, less adaptable perhaps.

For me though, this feeling is really one of nostalgia-for the environment, for our earth. A kind of homesickness-without even leaving home!

Environmental philosopher Glenn Albrecht coined the term Solastalia[1], and he says

“Solastalgia exists when there is recognition that the place where one resides and that one loves is under assault (physical desolation.)"

Welcome to Ant to Sol, a podcast where in each episode- I’ll share with you a quick little antidote that I use to get me through those times of despair in the age of the Anthropocene. A lot of them will be pretty familiar, and some may require gum boots, but if you are willing to take a leap of faith, you might just like the taste of your medicine.
